Baby Nurseries

Issues with baby nurseries include taking care of the safety issues, finding the right furniture and taking care of the essentials, plus possibly coordinating an inspiring theme for the room.

One of the first things to think about with nurseries are the safety issues. This includes safety for the baby plus a comfortable environment for the baby's parents. In addition to safety in the furniture, typical accessories include baby monitors that alert you to the sounds your baby makes.

The alarm and monitoring devices have developed a lot in the last couple of years, with high-end items now including such devices as motion sensor pads (placed under the crib mattress).

Baby Nurseries - Essentials

Building up the nursery room for your first baby can include a lot of experimenting with what to include and what not to include. To make this task easier, some manufacturers have made "essentials" lists of things recommended to include in the nursery room.

For example, Amazon.com has compiled the essentials list into the following:

  • Baby monitor
  • Bassinet or cradle
  • Changing table
  • Changing-table pad
  • Crib
  • Crib-bedding set
  • Crib toy
  • Diaper pail
  • Dresser
  • Glider and ottoman
  • Mattress
  • Mattress pad and cover
  • Mobile or sleep soother
  • Night-light
  • Nursing stool
  • Playmat
  • Rug
  • Sheet saver
  • Toy chest
  • Window valance

Baby Nurseries - Themes

There are hundreds of themes that you can make work in the nursery room. You can also mix and complement closely related themes with wallpapers and furniture. Borders make great variations to the pattern of the wallpaper, and can add to the richness of the theme in the nursery room.

The baby nursery themes are very distinct in comparison to a bit older children's themes, meaning that you may soon find yourself re-decorating the rooms with a new theme. Typical babies' themes include many of the same themes that all children grow up with, such as Sesame Street and Disney characters.

Traditionally many of the themes are either for baby boys or baby girls, but many parents are nowadays experimenting with neutral themes and colors for the nursery room.
