Limitations of SSA’s Most Popular Baby Names for Girls Data

If you use the SSA baby girl names resource, keep in mind some of the limitations. For example, you can’t browse last names chosen with the first name.

SSA would like you to also note that in the frequency orderings, the baby girl names are not edited or grouped together.

In particular, different spellings of similar names are not combined. For example, the names Kaitlin, Kaitlyn, Kaitlynn, Katelin, Katelyn, Katelynn, and Katlyn are considered separate names in the tables.

Also, the data from SSA is 100% sample, unless otherwise noted. This leaves room for some statistical errors.
