The name for the color comes from a tradition in the Western culture, where the color baby blue is associated with baby boys (pastel pink has the same effect in regard to baby girls), particularly when it comes to clothing, linen, and shoes.

Historically, blue has not always been associated with baby boys.

The historical reason why blue has become associated with boys may be because the color blue often conveys importance and confidence without being somber or sinister.

The same effect is enhanced later in life with the blue power suit of the corporate world and the blue uniforms of police officers.

Of the blue colors, especially darker blue is often associated with intelligence, stability, unity, and conservatism.
